IELTS Academic Certificate


 

Program Description

 This program is intended to equip students with a current IELTS band score of 5.0 or less who are seeking to improve their standing in the IELTS Academic test. However, this test goes beyond the confines of the questions presented in the IELTS exam and seeks to improve the core English that is required for a satisfactory score. Thus, the course will include topics in speaking, listening, reading, and writing – along with specific test taking skills for the IELTS Academic test.

 
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

 

Speaking
Students will be able to:Talk about concrete personal topics as well as simple abstract personal topics: jobs; hopes and dreams; travel; education; media and the Arts; and childhood and personal experiences
Answer questions presented in IELTS speaking Provide a two minute speech on personal topics presented in IELTS speaking tes
Discuss topics presented in IELTS speaking test.


Listening
Students will be able to:
Identify names and occupations; reasons; times and days; people and characteristics; country and language; place and time; food andrestaurants; and location
Distinguish between “did you” and “do you”; “did you do”, “do you do”, and “will you do”; different intonation patterns.
Distinguish syllable stress; email symbols.
Understand and complete multiple choice, form, note, table, flow chart, table, flow chart, and summary questions found in the IELTS listening test.


Reading
Students will be able to:
Employ various reading strategies: preview; predict; skim; and make predictions.
Connect personally with the text: outline a text; find main ideas and supporting details.
Competently manage reading difficulties: reading and interpreting charts, graphs, and tables.
Understand and correctly complete multiple choices, matching, and matching sentence ending questions found in the IELTS reading test.


Writing
Students will be able to:
Interpret data; paragraph accurately and effectively; structure an argument; describe tables and graphs; and present and justify an opinion.
Understand and correctly address IELTS writing tasks,


Grammar and Vocabulary
Students will be able to:
Use and understand basic grammar needed to express ideas in English: tenses past and present; the future; modals and semi-modals; and linking verbs, passives, and questions.
Use vocabulary to express ideas on various academic topics: history; composition; mathematics; biology; and word parts.

 
Admission Requirements
1. High School graduates or its equivalent, or age 16 and over;
2. Meet the English Proficiency Requirement as followings:
a. A minimum of 5  in formal IELTS or in house IELTS conducted by UPC, or its equivalents.
 

Tuition and Fees
1. Application fee: $250;
2. Assessment fee: $250;
3. Official transcript: $20 per copy;
4. Textbook: Optional (students may purchase their own copies);
5. Tuition: A total of $3,600.


Program Duration
The duration of the program is 20 weeks.


Learning Resources
Learning resources are mainly from textbooks, while some are from real-life case studies, internet information, as well as videos.
